We are looking for a GIS Application Developer with strong hands-on experience in building web-based GIS applications using open-source geospatial technologies. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying geospatial applications that support renewable energy site selection, infrastructure analysis, and decision-support workflows.
This is a remote, contract-based role to start, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position based on performance, delivery quality, and long-term fit.
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, and maintain web-based GIS applications using open-source platforms
- Build interactive mapping interfaces for spatial analysis, visualization, and decision support
- Implement geospatial workflows including buffering, overlays, suitability analysis, and parcel-level analysis
- Work closely with energy analysts, data scientists, and AI engineers to translate business and analytical requirements into scalable GIS solutions
- Integrate geospatial backends with web frontends and APIs
- Support configuration, optimisation, and maintenance of GIS databases and services
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation
Required Skills & Experience
Core Requirements
- Proven experience developing GIS web applications using open-source technologies
- Strong command of PostGIS and spatial SQL
- Hands-on experience with GeoServer / MapServer for serving spatial data
- Experience with Web GIS libraries such as – Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox, GL JS
- Solid understanding of GIS fundamentals - coordinate reference systems, raster and vector data, spatial analysis techniques
- Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript for geospatial scripting and application logic
- Experience working with QGIS or similar desktop GIS tools
- Experience with geospatial Python libraries such as – GeoPandas, GDAL / OGR, Shapely, Rasterio
- Exposure to cloud-hosted GIS environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Nice to Have / Plus Skills
- Experience with ArcGIS Web App Builder or ArcGIS Experience Builder
- Familiarity with ArcGIS JavaScript API
- Prior experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or environmental projects
